Reem Acra presented her Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 collection during New York Fashion Week in February. Comprising a variety of gorgeous evening and cocktail dresses the Reem Acra range featured modern trends, including leopard print (referring to her version of this print the designer called it ‘manipulated’), menswear-ish fabrics used in ultra feminine designs, and insect-inspired adornments.
Reem Acra said her inspiration for the Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 collection came from her childhood when she had had to hike up mountains on the outskirts of Beirut in search of amber with her farther. These memories of nature and insects she used to find trapped in amber helped her create the range we admire today.
Evening dresses that are usually incredibly lavish in Reem Acra’s collections were more restrained in her Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012range. But they were also very delicate, especially the teal dress with an iridescent chiffon cape and high, jeweled neckline. Another very womanly design was the midnight blue floor-length dress with sheer sleeves embellished with jewels.
There weren’t too many cocktail dresses in Reem Acra’s Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 collection but some of those were really wonderful. For example, the black frock with stone halter detail or the leopard single-shoulder design.
