Victor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren can’t go simple and predictable. Everything they create comes unexpected and interesting though not always wearable. For Spring/ Summer 2011 they decided to take men’s shirt and turn it into something feminine and at the same time pretty quirky. Unveiled as a part of Paris Fashion Week Viktor & Rolf Spring/ Summer 2011 collection was the reminder of the fact one can make very ordinary pieces look sophisticated and exclusive. All that is necessary is a bit of effort and creativity.
Viktor & Rolf Spring/ Summer 2011 fashion parade started from a mini shirtdress made from strips of embroidered blue ribbons with four collars and four pairs of cuffs skipping up the arms. Not the item you normally expect to see in the street I would say. It was followed by a number of garments of this type with light ribbons, asymmetrical details and ruches. Some were paired with classic pants and shorts.
The middle part of the Spring/ Summer 2011 show by Viktor & Rolf abounded with black color and more feminine and fancy dresses. As for the final portion of clothing, it was all designed in wedding style, but for not traditional brides – more for bold and eccentric ones. There was a huge fabulous-looking gown spanned the width of the runway. Its skirts were made from shirt tails while the bodice was created from starchy pearl-studded collars sticking out every which way.
There was a classier dress too, with the skirt all made from fabric pieces reminding flower petals tied together by a waistband. Looked fantastic. But the item that really caused a stir was the white shirt cut at the midriff but with a huge flounce behind stretching backwards in form of a train.
